Town of Farmington

Land Use Plan Policies

The Town of Farmington desires to remain a rural community with limited growth.  To preserve the rural character, the Future Land Use Plan will not show any future residential areas.

However, the Town of Farmington will consider the rezoning of lands to the RD Residential District, allowing 1½ acre lots contiguous to, and extending no further than ¼ mile from the existing hamlets of Boltonville, Fillmore and St Michael’s, and CERD Country Estates Residential District contiguous to and within ¼ mile of the boundary of existing residential platted lots (combination of subdivision and CSM lots) zoned as AG Agricultural District.

Within the Town’s hamlets, street lighting districts have been established for public safety and are thought of as the urbanized areas of the Town.  These lighting districts may be expanded to include all abutting subdivisions and small parcels up to 3 acres in size.  The Town of Farmington would consider rezoning any of these adjacent parcels in an expanded lighting district to Residential.

The Town of Farmington understands that as of January 1, 2010, any rezoning of lands based on the above standards will need to be consistent with the Town’s Future Land Use Plan. Any inconsistencies with the Future Land Use Plan will require a public hearing to amend the Plan, prior to adoption of a rezoning change.
